taking off brake calipers

Depends on the type of caliper. I have the single piston caliper on my 88 SE. To remove those, just undo the one bolt at the bottom of the back side of the caliper (12mm, I think) and pivot the caliper up off of the pads and disc, (it just swings up - you may have to use a little force to budge it) and then slide it off of the pin that it swiveled up on. That's it. There is only that one bolt. Don't let it just hang by the hose, though. Tie it to the spring or whatever is nearby.
The other type is the four piston. I haven't done those, but I'd GUESS that they unbolt completly - no swiveling.
(The single piston caliper "floats" - that means that it moves when you step on the brakes. The four piston caliper doesn't float - It stays put.)
The Haynes manual gives a good description and diagrams.
