Tachometer question

Well i just replaced my tranny and i started up the car for the first time in a week.
It started rough like it was flooded but when it finially hit an idle, i notice my tachometer wasnt working. My question is what controls it?

All my gauges work exept for my tachometer and speedometer(different story). so i doubt its my meter fuse. And i did break this little sender, and im hoping it has nothing to do with it. Ill post a pic of it tommororw

Your tach is run off of your trailing coil. And you'd notice if that wasn't working. Might be the sender. Post a pic and if you can a pic and description of where it was mounted. Might just be your dash though. When the tach went on my 87 I just replaced the whole cluster cause it's one piece, fixed it right up.

check the ground on the firewall by the wiper motor, when i changed my clutch it got snagged and i didnt find it for a few days, for me the tach would work for a bit and suddenly cut out, it also started slower than usual

Actually you probably wouldn't. The leading plugs do most of the work, and disabling the trailing ignition has only a small effect on performance.

Might be the sender.
The coil pack is the sender for the tach.

Check that the trailing coil pack's plugs are clean and secure.
