Suspension wtf

Hey! Can someone tell me how the previous owner effed this suspension up? Just bought my first FC, so not real sure how this goes together, and it's in pieces. Looked at a diagram but I can't really tell what parts are where.

Shock is protruding through mount. :/

It's been about a thousand years since I've dealt with stock style FC suspension but I think your best bet is to take it off and look at it off the car. to see what happened.

Here is the diagram just in case it's better than the one you looked at:

jack up car..
17mm nut on the shock bottom.
2 14 mm nuts inside that shock tower.
tap shock,,boom..shock drops..
Inspect shock.(idea..compare to shock on other side of car.)

I'll guess though that it has a busted spring.

28-016b is likely to blame. Doesn't look like the shock was assembled properly.
