Surging problem and other stuff
Alright I've been having a few problems with my car over the past few months and I'm trying to get to the bottom of it. The problem is this. The car has surges in power in all rpm ranges. Sometimes it will surge pretty bad, and sometimes I will have no surging at all. The surging sometimes happens at light throttle, and sometimes it happens at full throttle.
The other problem I have is blue smoke at startup. This happens usually only the first time I start the car in several hours. Sometimes I won't see the blue smoke, and sometimes there is a lot of blue smoke, but it always goes away shortly after the engine starts, and I don't ever see any blue smoke when driving the car.
Also when I haven't started the car in awhile sometimes it just cranks, over and over, and won't start until I floor the gas pedal which cuts off the fuel flow. Then when the car starts it sputters for a few seconds and smells like fuel. So for some reason it appears my car is flooding.
I'm trying to figure out if these problems are related or if I am having several different issue. Could my engine be losing compression? Oil rings going out? I know for a fact that I have an exhaust leak between the engine and the exhaust manifold. I have a new gasket for it, but I just haven't had the time to replace it yet. I also know my TPS is bad, but it has been since I've had the car, I've never been able to adjust it right. Just recently my check engine light started to go off occasionally. I got ahold of a used TPS, that it was unclear whether it was good or not. I replaced the TPS, and no my check engine light is always on when I am off the throttle. The second I tap the throttle the check engine light goes off. I was unable to adjust the new(used)TPS. I checked my engine codes after putting in the new TPS and here are the codes I get. First I get 3 long flashes. Then I get 3 long flashes again. Then I get 3 short flashes. Then I get 1 long flash and 2 short flashes. Does anybody have a list of codes somewhere?
Are the TPS plungers the same? Could I use one of the plungers from my old TPS and one from the new one and try different combinations to see if I can get it so I can adjust my TPS?
Thanks a lot in advance to anybody who replies.

First of all, there is nothing wrong with the fact that your exhaust has a bluish tint to it upon startup. So does mine. So do most everyones. It is because oil is injected into the engine upon startup in order to help lube the apex seals. Oil burns a bluish color. About the idle surging, you are probably correct in that the problem is with the TPS. I have the same problem, and have a new TPS on the way, but am almost positive the TPS is MY problem, and may well be yours too. About the flooding, it is a fairly common problem with FCs. They have leaky injectors. Either mazdatrix.com or rx7.com has a bleeder you can buy for the injectors that is supposed to help prevent flooding, but other than that, just don't start it up and shut it right off. Make sure that you let it warm up first. Mine doesn't seem to flood any more after I've modded it to the extent I have, but I still make sure to let it warm up before I shut it off. Fixing your manifold leak will also help out your idle. About the TPS. . . I'll leave that to someone else. Good Luck

The full range throttle sensor is only for the electric OMP, it does not affect anything else. The symptoms you describe are for the narrow range throttle sensor. If you have a meter, test resistance on the narrow range TPS - it should vary from less than 1 kohm to almost 5kohm off the engine. On the engine, the low value should be 1 Kohm if it is adjusted properly. If the resistance jumps to a low or high value anywhere while pushing the plunger in, the TPS is bad.
Your error codes are 30, 33, and 12 as per your post. These indicate solenoid, split air valve and solenoid, port air valve, and the 12 is the full range TPS. However, you may not be reading these correctly. The values are displayed from lowest code to highest code. If you need more info, give me your email and I will send you the troublecode write up.

Surging problems (under cruising) is indicative of lean conditions.  You might want to run some good fuel injector cleaner (Redline) through a couple tanks of gas or replace the fuel filter, if either has a lot of miles.

Thanks for the replies guys. My fuel filter is only a couple of months old. I always have fresh spark plugs, wires, etc... I've also tried using fuel system cleaners. Seeings how my car is flooded almost everytime I start when its cold, I guess my injectors are probably leaking so I guess its definently possible that I'm running lean. I have an extra set of 460cc injectors that I think I'm going to send into RC Engineering for cleaning, and then I'll replace my 2nd-aries with those, and then pop out of the primaries and send those in for cleaning as well.
