Suppresor beside slave cylinder
putting the 91 S5 NA and the little block that mounts on the slve cylinder has the wire broken off right at the base where it's going to be nearly impossible to solder it. What is the purpose of it, can it be bypassed, and what if it's not reinstalled. What would the impact be?
Thanks

It is a condenser for the oil pressure gauge. Should the sending unit go bad , it protects the gauge from damage. It is common for this to be overlooked during a clutch installation and it Is inevitable that the sender go bad. This Is why you see many oil pressure gauges inoperable. You do need it.

from the FAQ:
What is this little black box with a single wire and a small metal tab that is mounted near or on the clutch slave cylinder?
It is the Condenser (capacitor) for the Oil Pressure Sender. It is needed to protect the oil pressure gauge from burning out in the event of sender failure, and for smoothing any erratic pluses from the sender.
