sunroof works!
Well, I bought the car about a week ago (1990 GXL) and noticed few things that didn't work.. such as teh sunroof. then just tonight, i figured I'de take a look at the fuses under the wheel, noticed one was missing.. what do u know, its the sunroof. Now.. when i noticed that worked the thing didnt just prop up.. It took like an hours worth of cleaning and lubing. But now it goes good. Only one thing. When it first goes up it gets little stuck for some reason.. If I give it a little push, it goes. Anyone know of somthin that needs to be lubed? I can feel the motor strugle when it trys.. Maybe weak motor?
Thanks for help.

My sunroof fuse dissapeared sometime over the last year or so. The last time I drove it I know the sunroof worked, and when I recently got it fixed, it didnt work. Seemed to be a fuse. I think the car ate it.

im pretty sure if you buy new rubber seal that goes around the whole thing from mazdatrix, it will work normally, all it is is that rubber piece rubbing against the body, thats why it struggles.
i put grease on mine, and it worked fine but it rubbed off eventually and it got stuck again.

I've used grease before.. bad solution.. it works well for some time.. then the grease gunks up and makes it worse. A few months ago I cleaned out the old grease and cleaned the rails really well and used graphite instead of grease. Now I don't have to touch it at all.. it opens all the way and closes all the way by itself. It's been several months and no signs of gunk or anything like it.

The two FC's ive been in, and my own have all had to give the sunroof a little "love tap" as I have seen some call it, I plan on cleaning out the rails and finding some of that silicon based grease or the graphite solution..
The Rubber is also a solution that makese sense as well.

make sure the rails are clean, keep it lubed with a WD-40 type of spray a couple times a year. Mine has always needed a little boost to prop up but even after 160K (on the sunroof at least hehe) and years of being opened in all temps it still works

its not the lube, inspect it closely, have someone open it while your on top looking... its the back part of the rubber housing rubbing against the body...
grease or some sort of lube on the rails will just make it slide open and closed easily, but the real problem is the rubber...
when i said i put grease on mine i didnt put in on the tracks, i put it on the rubber part that was rubbing and it worked, but only for a short period of time.
