How would I go about taking the roof a 1988 GTU. I here the motor working but it doesn't move. Also what do I do once I get it off. Is there anything I should look for that could be causing the problem.

 

need to take off the headliner, then access the bolts to the sunroof and remove the assembly. as for fixing the problem, sounds like the link has been disconnected somwhere. sorry if that is somwhat vague, ive never run into this problem before, just trying to give you an idea of what to check

 

try assisting it by hand by pushing up on it while working the controls, alot of the time the seal will cook itself to the paint and the motor just cant break the seal on it's own. if it pops open then give it a goox wash and wax around the seal sufaces and also clean out the sunroof tracks and re-grease them. if it won't open still then you need to drop out the headliner and pull out the whole assembly.

 

Oh...you just needed to do the headliner? :-P My sunroof had the same problem as yours, so I just took off everytthing(the roof I guess you would say). I then was able to push it up by hand and regreesed and cleaned everything, then put it all back together. Havent tried it with everything together again because I currently have the UIM off waiting for my injectors to arrive.

With my sunroof, I push the open button for about a second, but the motor can't lift the sunroof by itself, so I just have to pop it up, and then it slides back no problem. Try pushing up on the back of it after trying the button. Thats how mine works.......
