Suggested way of changing manual transmission fluid?

Well, the only way I know of doing it, is to get under the car, have somebody feed a house down which is connected to the bottle of fluid, then put the hose in fill hole, and let her rip. I've had so many problems with this, mainly it getting all over me. What would I do to get this right? I think I remember somebody saying something about getting an item that looked like a good old bike tire pumper...whatever it would be called, and put the fluid in that, feed the hose to the hole, and just pump it in. *OF course I'm not talking about the actual item of bike tire air pump...just something that looks/acts like it*

How do you guys do it easily?

2 ways:

Take it to ur local oil change place, they can drain, flush and fill. Should cost less than an auto tranny considering the amount of fluid and lack of filter.

or

run the hose down engine bayfirewall into the fill hole, and wedge it in their (so it doesnt pop out easly). Place a BALL NEEDLE on the compressor line (thing used to pump up basketballs n stuff). Wedge the hose onto the nipple of the bottle, if it wont stay put, then you will need to get clever or get help (2people makes it A LOT easier). Flip the bottle, stab the bottom with the needle and press gently on the air release button, go too fast and you can pop off the hose or even the screw cap, but it saves a ton of squeezing!!!

also, helps if u cover the ground around the fill hole, and premeasure your fluid to prevent overflow.

Go to Lordco and get a fluid pump. A little tube will come with it. Measure the widt of it. Find a place to buy the same width tube and about 4 feet long. Stick the new tube in the fill plug hole send it up through the hood. Fill the tube with fluid then put the pump on the end and pump her in.
I havent tried this yet but next time I will.

I've used a fluid transfer pump, it makes it sooooooo much easier and faster than just pouring it in or squeezing the bottle.

BTW, Lordco's a western Canadian thing, your local auto parts store should have one.

Just make sure you don't get those cheap 2-3 dollar pumps. They're exactly like an old bicycle hand bump (a cylinder, a piston inside, and a T handle). You're supposed to insert the tube that is attached tot he nozzle of the pump into a bottle of fluid and pull the handle so it sucks the fluid out. Well, it's a bitch to pull the handle (very very stiff) without tipping over the bottle (if you're doing this alone with no bottle helping you hold the tube or the bottle). Also when you putt the tube out of the bottle, the thing drips like crazy so you have to plug it with a finger and somehow insert it into a fill hole at the same time. Now when you get the damn tube into the fill over with fluid all over your face from dripping, you have to push the handle back in forcefully to push out the fluid from the pump into the tranny or w/e you're filling up. Have fun doing that without the tube coming out and squirting you with half a cup of fluid.
