Stupid Question: How do you fasten the spare tire in a vert? Please explain

Hey all,

I know this sounds stupid, but I cannot figure out how to fasten my spare tire. I have the T bolt, but it seems like it does not have enough threads to fasten the tire properly under the rear deck. Can someone explain exactly how this works, including tire orientation? It would be appreciated.

Regards,
Gavin

First check you're screwing into the right hole!
If you have the right wheel (space-saver, not full size), the right bolt and you're in the right hole, it will work.
A PO might have lost the original bolt and replaced it with a shorted one.

Which hole is the right one? There are two threaded holes on the center elevated piece of metal (which I've tried) and a non-threaded hole in the middle, which doesn't work. I ordered a new T bolt from Mazda as I thought the one I had was incorrect, but the same one came, so that is not the problem. If you can expand on your explanation, I would appreciate it.

Regards

Are putting the tire in the right place?

I was keeping my spare in the well designed for it in the trunk.
I guess that area is a left-over from the coupe.
I discovered there is also a well for it behind the seats, under the deck cover. (The top has to be up to access the area)
I will also be relocating my battery to the same area.

Sorry dude, I'm stumped. I've never had a problem with mine so something must be different. P'haps someone's got some photos they could post?

Sorry, not much help here. Mine has no bolt, so it is currently secured with some string. But I do think it is supposed to go inside the car under the cover, not in the trunk. If it is in the trunk, you can't get the targa panel in.
