I was trying to get my car home from where I parked it last night after the alternator went out. I got my battery recharged and pulled the alternator off of my N/A to swap onto my TII (N/A lost a seal). Anyways, I put in my freshly recharged battery and foolishly hooked it up. So I was tightening the 8mm nut down in back of the alternator and I accidentily hit the IC bracket with the handle of the rachet and as a result some sparks flew. After the sparks, I noticed that the A/C fan stopped working (it was whirring in the background). I unplugged the battery and finished tightening the 8mm nut. After finishing the alternator and putting the IC hoses back on, I re-attached the battery cable. The dome light came on inside, as did the defrost. I went to start it and nothing happened when I turned the key; no click, fan, cranking, nothing. All of my lights work without a problem and I couldn't find any blown fuses...

What did I mess up when it sparked?

 

You blew the 80amp Main Fuse. It BOLTS in the fuse box in the engine bay.

 

LMAO, you used the caps on "bolt" becuase of what I did right?

haha, yeah, I've blown that fuse before. Once I spent almost 2 hours trying to pull it out like a tooth, lol.

Yeah, my about my luck, lol. I really think all these mishaps are a blessing in disguise. Because if everything would've gone "perfect" I would've remained intimidated when looking into the engine bay. Now I'm not. I'm confident that there is no longer anything that I can't do myself on my car. So to me, bad luck = good learning experience.

Yea... RX-7s are good for the "Well... you want to drive it? You'll learn to work on it one way or the other." factor.

I've done the same thing before, but just brushed the intake manifold & didn't blow the fuse.

"Hm... positive terminal on the alternator... I wonder if this thing is always connected to the batter*ZAP* Yup."

^ ha yeah, so it was the fuse. Thanks again guys. It seems to be driving a lot better, it can now officially hold an idle after driving it around. woo hoo!

So the only things left to be done are:

fix a gnarly vaccum leak (temporary BOV, lol), 2 coolant leaks and a bad oil leak. Oh, and also put on the hood, pass. fender, front bumper, mirrors, hatch etc. LOL! ya' know, the basics.
