Stuck VDI Actuator/Thermostat issue

ok 2 problems i need some gurus advice on..
88 GXL n/a

#1. My front rotor vdi actuator is seized. wont move at all.. although i havent noticed any driveability problems because of this... im supposed to be getting another gxl for parts but i want to do the ACV valve and egr removal.. what do you guys think i should do? external air pump w/rpm switch and keep system intact? are there any other methods to keep the VDI w/removing the ACV?

#2. My temp gauge always reads less than 1/4 of the way to hot... im thinkin the previous owner drilled holes in the thermostat or something, and also the heater has been bypassed. can an s5 thermostat fit on the s4 housing? any advice is appreciated!

You don't have VDI. VDI is on the S5 FC only.

To unstick your Aux. ports, pull them out, clean them up, and then put them back in.

Most of the time, if you have a good running coolant system, the car won't usually go too high in temp. Also, the stock gauges suck. So, you may actually be closer to 1/3 but the gauge isn't reading correctly. Not a big deal. If it goes too hot, then you have a problem.

You dont have VDI on that car, thats the Aux port actuator. If it is truly seized you will have to pull the intake manifold off to free it up.

S4 NAs can ditch the ACV & air pump, if you continue to rely on exhaust pressure to open the aux. ports. But you can keep the airpump, tap a nipple into it & use an rpm switch & emissions solenoid to activate them instead. You should keep the ACV, if you go this route, since the majority of the air needs somewhere to go. Pressure could build up and blow your line off, if you only have it connected to the aux. port actuators.

An S5 thermostat most likely will not work on an S4. Just get the right one.
