Stuck in Reverse, Need some Input/Help
I had just finished installing my turbo timer so I figure I'd drive around for 5 minutes to check to see if the Auto Timer works well. I reverse out of the driveway and found myself not being able to get out of gear (87 tII). It still doesnt budge out of reverse when the engine is off or on. I searched the forum but most people have the problem of not being able to shift while engine is on or regardless of what gear they are in, it still acts like one (ie in 5th gear pos but still reverses). The car still reverses and doesnt stall (clutch still works fine) but that doesnt help much only having reverse. The tranny is pretty beat. I grind 5th gear 90% of the time and at high rpm shifts. Im thinking the syncros are jacked but maybe there is something someone can tell me to try. Ive already checked the slave and master clutch cylinders (that i replace 3 months ago) and they are not leaking or having movement problems. This is sad....i dont have money for another tranny if thats the problem. Thanks in advance for the help/advice.

Well, it's possible that a peice of the bushing may have come apart and worked its way down into the shifter housing, physically preventing the shifter from moving. You can always pull the shifter out and see if there's anything down in there.

i had the same problem. went for reverse one day and backed up then went to pull forward and wouldnt budge. it wouldnt go out of reverse but i could pull the shifter into nuetral where if felt like gears meshing and the car would stall if the clutch was let out. i had to tow it to a shop where they told me some **** like they couldnt even open my tranny to see what the problem was. so they sold me a rebuild one. i never found out the problem only that in my case it couldnt be fixed. sorry that it happend to u to

damn, those are some quick replies. Appreciate it and ill take apart the shifter to check tommorrow. THe thing is that i tried a put a little force to get it in neutral at least but it grinds the gear, even with the clutch in. Not quite sure what this means...but sounds like a big problem. Anyother help would be great. thanks
