strut mount set up

wrong forum but no one goes to the suspension forum ans knew the answer would be here, sorry.

When I installed the racing beat springs I payed no attention to the set up upon reinstallation and the car has some funny handling characteristics. It pulls to either side upon braking 50% of the time and wants to track in either direction even if the wheeel is just slighlt nudged in that direction.

I have tokico blues and racing beat springs. I have the toe elimanator but they arent in yet. it did this before I but the springs and Ive only driven the car for 3k and it has a new engine in it so I never got on it until recenlt (engine croaked right after I got it) Oh yeah, and I have a strut tower brace. and the car alot of the times will track and brake striaght fine. ?. I saw a post on rear strut mount set up but I guess I never made a book mark like I thought I did and couldnt find it again.

any help guys? I learn everytime I visit here

thanks
Jared

You say it did this before any suspension mods? Make sure you've had a decent alignment done. Otherwise, I used to have a car that did some of this (not an RX7), but was much more noticeable on roads w/ ruts, etc. I just thought it was steering play, but turned out to be the tires. Check out your tires and make sure all is well there. Make sure they are true radials -- in my case, the tires were cheapo bias ply... A lot of sellers will buy a cheap set of these so they can say 'new tires'.

Maybe bushings? Check the obvious/cheap first -- I'm not a suspension expert by any stretch, so there are probably other RX7 specific things that someone can help on.

You know, technically, you're supposed to get an alignment whenever you touch the suspension or tires/rims...

Time for an alignment?

but isnt there some special way that the upper strut mount is supposed to interface the tower. I thought I saw a thread once that said that the "notches" or painted markers are supposed to be situatated a ceratin way. I know the one I am thinking of was speaking of the rear struts and how to maximize handling. Any one remember this one?

I know the I need to get an alignment. It feel like something funnny in the back when I accelerate. I can hit second and kick the car sideways and get on it in third on an on/off ramp and lose the car if I want. It can be uh....spirited, to say the least.

87t 3k on new engine
rb full turbo
rb fcd
wastegate done
mbc set to 10.5 lbs
bosch fuel pump and summit AFR, never, ever in the lean.
tok. non adjust
rb springs awaiting time to do the rear streer elims.
ac-GONE
acv-GONE

thanks fellas

congrats Ted

I'm not sure what post it was, but it won't help unless your car is still in spec (read:get an alignment ). After that you can make adjustments, but until then you'll never know what's really gonna make the car "better", only what will make it close to the way you used to have it.
