strange ticking noise

ive traced the noise to a box under the dash titled "flasher"

apparently it has something to do with the idiot lights/turn signal in the dash. it makes a loud clicking noise, and behaves like a short. it doesnt do it during accel, but does it during cruising and when i hit the brakes, the entire dash lights up (all idiot lights and shift light)

is this a common problem? im asking this before i take it out for a closer look. i dont want to mess anything up.

You need to find the bare spot/short in the harness before it gets worse.

If you're lucky, it could be some bad/open grounds.

Are you talking about the flasher unit in the CPU?

Might be talking about another cold solder joint...

i cracked it open. its a shiny plastic box that says "flasher" apparently it controls the turn signals and hazard lights and such. theres 3 boards in it, each operating independently of the other. the main one is the one thats spazzing out, it has the open door beeper on it. one of the coils, or whatever they are.. seemingly magnetically activated switches, seems to be hooked up to the dash panel, and lights everything. randomly. the weirdest part is that for some odd reason, once i unplugged it, it doesnt seem to really do anything. my flashers still work. im looking into this as we speak.

so my solution was to simply unplug the entire board. the larger of the 3 that seems to control the door beeping noise.

You probably need to get with Icemark on this- he's the CPU guru, I've never had to mess with it (or the wiper or headlight switch, for that matter, my car's been berry, berry good to me )

hey u removed ur car door beeper? that thing annoys the hell out of me. I like leaving the door open and the stereo on while I'm working on my car, does your alarm system still work, I have a feeling that's related.

i have no alarm hooked up.. do you think that could cause a short if a previous owner did a bad job removing it?
