Strange Running Problem S5

I have a 89 vert 13B non-turbo that is having a few problems. It has 106K on it and the engine is clean enough to eat off of (maybe replacement?) who knows.

Anyways, you can start it up and warm it up and everything is fine, go down the road a few miles and it slowly starts to act like it is running out of gas. You can slowly press the gas down and it will rev but push it down with any force at all and it acts like it has no gas. Let up on the gas and it comes back.

Now, you can turn it off and start it right back up and it acts fine again for a few minutes and then starts it all over again like it is running out of gas.

It has a new fuel filter, and I took the pump out to make sure it was not clgged up. Clean as a whistle. Could be the pump is going bad, but the experience I have had with them is that they usually either run or they don't, unless they are clogged up with dirt, rust , gunk and so forth.
It did have a very bad air filter, but when replaced it did not seem to help it any.

Any suggestions?

sounds like the car is going into limp mode. Does the Check engine light come on when you turn the key to the ON position but don't start the car?

I did see the check engine light come on last night when I ran it thru town. This was the first time I saw it come on when running since getting the car though.

I do believe it comes on when you turn the key to the on position but I will confirm this when I get home tonight.

On another note, would the "limp" mode also account for the automatic transmission not wanting to shift unless you let off of the gas?
I did a search for this problem but did not really get a solid answer to what was occuring.
If it was any other car, I would look for a vacuum leak to the modulater valve on the transmission.

Check engine light on while running means it dumped into limp mode. You can pull the codes and see what has failed (probably the MOP).

Check engine light not coming on with the Key ON, but not running indicates either a bad bulb or bad idiot light panel.

Well here is the BAD news.....Dang it.
  • 17 - Feedback System (poss O2 sensor) - Feedback cancelled
  • 27 - MOP (General) - Basic Fuel Injection and fixed timing
  • 37 - MOP (General) - Basic Fuel Injection and fixed timing
  • 26 - MOP (Step Motor)
Now, what do I need to do to fix this...OMP, ECU etc.
