Exclamation Strange Noise and All Idiot Lights On, Car Dies Minutes Later

OK so here is what happened.

was driving up I 79 i have 240 miles on my engine...i just got it started a couple days ago. at around mile marker 130 and i decide to pull over at a rest stop. as im gearing down. i here a very faint noise and immediatey after all the idiot lights come on including the shift up light EXCEPT for the e brake and seat belt light. i stop the car, its still running. come back a minute later (had to tinkle), still ok. i get back on the road and at about marker 165 i get off the exit. and for some reason i hit the right turn signal and the lights go off. i decelerate down the off ramp and it dies. BUT i hear a pulsation from the speakers and see pulsation from the from the idiot lights (they came back on at this point). so i pull her over and i check the voltage of the battery and it says 5 volts.

so is it safe to asume that this is my alternator taking a **** on me???im stuck in this place and i need help ASAP-

steven

p.s. other then that the car was running great. can i test to see if the alt. is generating any electricity will i have the car being jumped?

Alternator. Just replace with a new one... or one that works for that matter. New battery and you're set!

good luck

Maybe you got a faulty wire somewhere? That could cause a low charge no? The N/A has a separate harness for the alt but the TII doesn't.

If you want more / better responses, try a better thread title?

It sounds like the alternator isn't charging for whatever reason...

sounds like what happened to me. i was driving to a friend's house at night and out of nowhere, the radio dies. i was thinking "great, probably a fuse somewhere," then my headlights start to dim and the idiot lights went out. Then followed all the power. I got the car home and put in a fd alt and no problems since!
