Alright, I have an 88 TII with 130K miles, running castrol 20w50 oil, fram oil filter, racing beat turbo back, rtek 1.7 w/720cc secondaries, shimmed e-shaft thermowax, OMP and most other emissions deleted and running premix, and twin scroll deleted.

The problem I'm having is only apparent at idle, with the clutch in and the car in gear. When the engine is cold, as soon as I put it in gear, its starts to die. I can blip the throttle to keep it running, and if I take it out of gear it idles just fine. Once the engine starts to warm up it idles fine, in gear or not, but as soon as I take it above 1200 RPM, it won't go below that until I take it out of gear. When it drops to 1200-1500 rpm, my wideband shows full lean and it sounds like an old lawnmower. As soon as I take it out of gear it drops to idle at 750, sounds normal and my wideband shows high 12s. I have no idea where to start on this.

I apologize if this has been covered before, I did search but didn't find anything. I'll admit that I suck at searching on forums though.

Try cleaning, checking or changing the following. MAF spray with cleaner and lubricate with WD-40, internal throttle mechanisms same thing spray with carb or injector cleaner, check all vacuum lines and finally remove the BAC clean and lubricate. adjust TPS if necessary, adjust idle, check timing. Good luck worked on mine and just passed my emmission.

 

I'll give that a try, but I don't understand why its only while it is in gear. aside from the funky idle when in gear, it runs perfectly, revs fine right from idle and everything. I can't figure out the connection.
