could this be a symptom of "leaning out" at higher rpms? It only does it when the car is in gear, at about 5.7k rpms. What makes a car go lean? I can redline the car in nuetral and it doesn't miss at all..it's only when in gear under pressure....

The VDI and aux ports only activate when underload and that's because the ECU tells them to activate, i would also guess that this has to do with the secondaries as well. You might as well go through and check as many grounds as you can.

I had a sort of similair problem. It would hesitate, or bog down anywhere between 3k and up. I replaced the plugs and fuel filter with no benifitial results, so i broke down and got the voltmeter out. I was getting totally bad grounding.. I replaced the ground wire from the tranny to the firewall, and clean all of the terminals for the coil's grounds, the harness ground and all of the other ones i could see. I then replaced the battery, because my battery was leaking and wasn't holding a good charge. I tested my resistance and it was close to 0.0 ohms. After that, i had no more hesitation or bogging at all.

Good luck.

I never really fixed this problem on my old 87 (this post is about) but I really think that it was due to the main grounding of the emmision side harness.. I bought the car shortly after a rebuild and they may no have hooked the ground under the upper manifold right.
