"STOP LIGHT" Gremlin

I've been trying to figure out—for a year—why my "Stop Light" light in the idiot cluster comes on when my lights are on and the brakes are applied. I resoldered my CPU, checked all of the bulbs, checked all of the connectors…nothing wrong. Well, I was walking through WalMart today looking for blank CDs and stumbled through the automotive section and glanced at the "Find Your BulB" computer. I put in my car and it told me what bulb to get. I figured that since it was only a buck or two I'd buy them and check out the bulbs again.

In between burning discs I went out to check out the brake light bulbs. Unplugged all 4 sockets and upon removing the last brake light bulb I noticed it had only one filament…the new bulbs I had bought are two filaments. The previous owner had replaced the bulb with the wrong type! It still lit up, but it didn't have the second filament to brighten and tripped an error in CPU!

So, when you check your lights…CHECK YOUR BULBS! Make sure they are the correct application!

The two types of bulbs should have different tabs on them...the wrong one shouldn't fit. The previous owner must have tried really hard to get that one in there.
