Stock weight and weight reduction

I saw on the sales brochures that 2 gens weigh around 2625-2700 lbs.
just wondering if someone actually weighed their stock car and got a similar weight. also what type of significant weight reductions can be done and what type of weight is atainable.
I am asking because my current mazda is about 2200(fully gutted), and I want to swap the motor from it into a 2nd gen rx7 and was wondering if i get it close to the same weight.
thanks

We've managed to get a stock 1990 Turbo II to weigh down to 25xx without any drastic (i.e. cutting) weight reduction at full race trim.

I had my S4 sport swapped TII weighed, and came in at 2900 even, with Myself, a FULL tank of gas, and all the tools, books, junk, and spare that i usually carry in the car, after carefully weighing each item, the total was 335 in extras. so figure, 2900 - 335 = 2565 for just the car, with no fuel or tools/spare tire/me/ etc.

YES, read the FAQ and specs threads as suggested (because that goes for anyone wanting to know about the RX-7). And just so no one is confused... I said FATTER, not FASTER, and since the S5's were FATTER, the FASTER bit when they're in stock form has been beaten to death and I don't even care to get into that argument. This is a quick look at what the specs thread has to say about curb weight:

1991 curb weight:
coupe: 2787lbs
turbo: 2987lbs
vert: 3071

1988 about 50 less than the above /\/\/\ for all models

1987.5 a little heavier than immediately below \/\/\/

1987 curb weight:
coupe: 2700lbs
auto: 2735lbs
turbo: 2850lbs

1986 curb weight:
manual: 2625lbs
auto: 2695lbs

thanks, i read the stickies and did a search. I just wanted to know the actually weight of peoples cars that were responding. So a gutted race car could probably weigh around 2300-2400lbs with no lexan and minimal fiberglass. If this is true, that would be pretty good for me, I would be sacrificing about 200lbs. But be gaining a RWD car with a lot beefier of a drivetrain.
this is my current vehicle and the swap plans are here if anyone is intrested.

I appreciated the responses

ive been wondering about some of these weights too. ive got an 88 body with a 90 engine in it and then a big IC in the front. i did a quick spreadsheet on weight vs power. here's what i came up with.

QM TIME Power VS. Weight

8 0.3860
9 0.2710
10 0.1977
11 0.1487
12 0.1143
13 0.0900
14 0.0720

it reads that if you want to run a 14 second pass, your going to need .07 HP per pound ( including driver) and so on. ive personally always wanted a 10 sec car so i have a few options. either gut my car and keep my hp a little lower, or go for more power. im going to do both

What's an FE?

Do you mean SE aka SE3P, i.e. the RX-8 with the 13B-MSP engine?

I believe there are people around here with cars weighing from 1900-2200 lbs. fully gutted and perhaps with some cuts (I don't remember). But 2200 seems to be the common level of crazy while 1900 is the extreme level of crazy, so hopefully it doesn't take too much to reach 2200. If I remember right you can gut 200lbs. out of the interior just from upholstery, passenger seat, etc. The base model weighs 2626 lbs. So that puts you at 2426lbs. right there.

I think you are confused about the fe engine I am refering to.
The one I am using is an FE3. Its a JDM mazda 2.0 DOHC piston engine. I have one in my mx6 and want to go rwd.

Ah.....that makes more sense. I was wondering where FE came from when referring to the RX-8, it's not like it's anywhere in its VIN or chassis designation or that the RX-8 is a successor to the RX-7 in any way, shape or form, besides the rotary engine and the first two letters and symbol of the name.

We've managed to get a stock 1990 Turbo II to weigh down to 25xx without any drastic (i.e. cutting) weight reduction at full race trim.
Mine is a 87 T2. Got it to the 2520 range with no cutting as well. I did take the dash out, and remove a lot of little boxes and bolts before I put the new dash in.

Took out the, spare tire, rear washer tank, all emissions, air pump, power lighter exhaust system, lighter rims,...

Still have AC tho.
