Stock stereo questions
Happy 4th everyone! Just a quick question:
Is my stock 87 T2 am/fm cass able to interchange with a 88 Pioneer stock RX-7 GXL AM/FM Cass with CD player? Are the hookups the same? I know its the same size in the dash...
Thanks for any help, my cass dosn't work but I found a nice stock am/fm Cass/CD that would look nice (Stock) if it plugs in the same? Thanks much for any imput!

This is a no- go...The plug ins are NOT the same for a 87 T2 am/fm cass & a 88 RX-7 GXL Pioneer AM/FM Cass & CD player...Same size unit...But it didn't work for anyone else wondering.

Then you have a blown fuse or some other issue. The wires and plugs are identical between the two models you desribe.
The power pins are the same and in the same spot as are the speaker plugs.

Icemark: The 88 Pioneer Cass/CD stock stereo of the upgraded model has many more plugs in's then the 87 T2 am/fm cass model. I checked the Pioneer unit prior to install and it worked fine before I tried the switch.

Then you didn't get the amps or all the parts with the T2 radio.
The speaker, power, and antenna, etc plugs are the same. The only exception would be the CD controller plug, (which the T2 radio wouldn't have) but the system would work otherwise.

Rotary Freak
For me this was plug and play with one exception.
Stock t2 radio/casset was replaced no problem by a casset/cd deck from a convertible rx7.
The only problem I had was the power antenna would not go up and down. I figure the radio supplies a ground signal but the motor requires a positive signal. ALl I did was wire the motor to ignition and problem solved.
Happy skipping over bumps!!! Authentism is worth it though.

Ice: I am wanting to take out the old T2 radio & put in the upgraded Pioneer unit. The upgraded unit had several more electrical plug ins...I did get power, but no radio? I had the anntenna pluged in? I didn't try a cassette or CD however?

see that is the only harness that is there, except for if you have the old 86-87 CD player, and then that will have one extra round din style plug for the tuner controller and A to D converter.
Every S4 coupe though will have that wiring. The convertibles and upgraded Pioneer AE systems add a couple of other plugs going to amps, but nothing else is required than the the above plugs to make the system work with front and rear speakers.

Hmmm? Ok, thanks much for the diagram, time & effort.
I don't know what didn't work?
I pluged in the main plugs where they were only able to plug in and left the others. Perhaps they were for the amps? Its worth another try. Thanks again for your help!

perhaps you plugged in plugs, that belong on the cassette, into the radio or????
as the power jumps from the cassette to the radio through the din plugs

Good question?
It appeared to be plugged in the only ways they could be plugged? I work so late, I don't know if I will have time to look at it again untill this weekend...
Thanks again Mark!

Icemark, thanks for the good info in this thread but a stupid question for you/anyone?
The above schematic of the radio back names the individual wires in the pin connectors as "A,B,C," on the 3 pin connector but which is A B &C on the back of the radio? The connector was cut off my harness. I assume that A is the top one and B is the lower left and C the lower right?
Thanks Jamie
