Stock S5 spoiler and repainting

So as you know the stock S5 spoiler is that hard spongy stuff. Im almost done with my restoration, and there are several blemishes on the spoiler that would show up on repaint if old paint isnt stripped.

Question: does this rubber or whatever it is allow for stripping before repainting? Or would I be better off finding a hard material that is easy to strip?

Yes it is spongy inside with a hard core, but the outside should be a hard plastic skin. That skin can be sanded and painted.

I happen to know the contents because I cut one in half to section out a piece to fit on a vert trunk...
