stock catback removal problems

Hey all, it's been a while. I'm trying to remove the stock catback from my TII but I'm running into a hangup(literally). The previous owner has the y-pipe welded onto the mufflers and short of cutting the pipe(not an option, I need these things intact), I can't separate the three pieces. The rubber rings at the rear of the catback(by the bumper) and the front of the catback(by the cat) came off ok, but the middle ones I can't get off because I can't rotate the exhaust pieces. I can't cut the rubber rings in the metal because they have metal in them. I can't unbolt them because there's not enough play for the ratchet to click. Ideas? I'm open to suggestions(remember, no cutting the pipes! ). Thanks a ton fellas!

Steve

I am not sure which ones you mean. are they the rubber pieces that connect right before the muffler starts? refering to a picture that is easy to get ahold of. like the haynes manual or the users manual. lates

Go to Autozone or Pep-boys and buy one of the stubby handles ratchets they sell, its got a handle about two inches long.. its the only thing i can use to get those bolts up in front of the gas tank off, there still isn't much room, but it works well. Make sure you get one with a really small distance between the "clicks" Note.. these little cheapo ratchets work GREAT for spark plugs too!@!!!

you should be able to get them out by hand which I have done. Just push up on the catback and pop the rubber ring out it'll take some time to figure out which manuever would give you most slack but it CAN be done without unscrewing it.

I just got done pulling the exhaust off. if you use a small enough ratchet you can get it to click.
