Hey rxracer77,
you must in the same "situation" as I am...which is kind of shitty, because I cannt decide if my TII is boosting correctly or not

Anyway, my boost pattern is something like 200-300-400-400mmHg (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th), which equals 0,3-0,4-0,5-0,5 bar. Head honcho in Mazda sez that this is more or less normal, so....

The other thing that troubles me is that in 2nd and 3rd, if i WOT, then I will hit something less than the numbers mentioned above and almost immediately I will start losing boost (still under WOT). The above numbers of boost can be reached with gradual pressure of the pedal (of course to the end ). Which leads me to think I may have too much backpressure (clogged cats and/or exhaust).

Hope this helps some....

Yep Hailers, I remember this post, and your reply to my PM about the same issue. Thats why I'm guessing thats its clogged cats/exhaust system when you stop boosting properly and you lose boost as the rpms climb...
The thing is, the mazda guy cannot really explain to me why my boost pattern is what it is right now, and why I'm losing boost right after I hit max boost (whatever that is). I know this guy used to be Head Engineer at Mazda Hellas, so he should know what he's talking about...dunno....

Man, I gotta find a day off, so I can go and install my full exhaust well, almost full, actually DP, Y-pipe and free mufflers (I'm keeping my cat, however clogged it may be, its still working fine)

Good luck with the new exaust. Just a note here. I had bought the *******, 2and 1/2 inch downpipe and presilencer and started runnning a hair off 8psi. Thats with the stock mufflers still in place. Last weekend I put the K and N that was on my 87N/A on the 87turbo and I hit right at 10psi. I'm more or less happy with this ******* 2 and 1/2 inch downpipe right now. I'm afraid if I went and put the full Mazdatrix exaust on, I'd have to start spending bucks to keep everything intact. Like I say, I'm a newbie to the turbo.

So you're saying that 2"1/2 should be enough ? Should I go with 3" or not ? I dont think its a money issue, because the difference will be negligible, but if start hitting fuel-cut (well, I would if I didnt have the FCD ), that means fuel pump, and injectors, and AFC, and ApexI etc etc....too much dinero for me right now....

Your talking to a RANK AMATUER. I have owned one since the spring, and that includes the time to rebuild the engine and get the title straightened out. I bought the Mazdatrix 2 and 1/2 inch downpipe and presilencer because my boost had dropped from an acceptable reading to boosting just over 3 psi. Took a chance and bought the 2 and 1/2 inch. Then boosted just a needle width from 8psi on a Autometer boost gauge. By accident more than design, I put the kand n on the turboii last weekend. Now it boost to 10 on the Autometer. Also hit cutoff at 10 on the Autometer gauge. I don't, at least right now want to boost higher than that. I need to put the money into seats, tires and paint. If I want to boost higher later, I realize that I will have to buy the 3 inch exausts which in turn means the the 2and 1/2 is going to sit in the shed. I find it easy to stay just below the 10psi by keeping an eye on it when on the gas. You have the same dilemma as I do. Not ready to have to spend the extra bucks for above 10psi, which I just know will happen if I buy the full Mazdatrix from head to toe (3 inch). Also take note of the first six words on this post. I'd say go the 2 and a half setup with a kandn filter to hit the 10psi. No K and N will from my limited experience give about 8psi.

The stock boost gauge is great....

FOR ME TO POOP ON!

Seriously, all it's good for is saying "look, I have a turbo!" It's fed by the computer, so if you're running an FCD (which tricks the computer into thinking it's less boost that it is) it will be even more totally out of whack. Bite the bullet and get a proper mechanical boost gauge, you'll be glad you did.

Hey Ace
thats irrelative but I'm very curious who is going to tune the SAFC safely and proper here in Greece if you buy it now or later.
Any suggestions?
Is the FCD enough for a full exhaust/intake mod?I recommend a boost controller with an aftermarket gauge too.
Mazda Hellas sucks!!!

More misc q's, does anyone think that a 2.5 DP would be a good boost limiter? Would adding a high flow cat cause the boost to go up higher (probably so over stock, but I need a replacement--it looks like ****)?

I already got the K&N Double cone, and I'm putting a full exhaust next week (hopefully... ), and the FCD is all you need. I know at least two other TIIs with similar setup, and they didnt even need the FCD. I'd install it just as a precaution...

Tune a S-AFC ? Hmmmm, only Patsoureas, PowerTuning, maybe a shop that carries turbos ???? Dont really know....

And about Mazda Hellas, a friend of mine is ultra happy with them. I've had my TII in two Mazda shops (the one in Lykobrysh and Dede in Katexaki), and both did a pretty good job. Dedes even measured my CR without me telling him to (8:1 all around) !! Dont think he's into upgrades much, though....

As far as stock boost gauge goes, it really is useless. Autometer isnt the best boost gauge to get, but their cheap and tell you way more than the stock one ever will. Splurge and spend the $40 for an aftermarket boost gauge. While your at it you might as well throw the air/fuel gauge in as well. Secondly whats all this talk about getting someone to tune your S-AFC? Tune it yourself It's not hard at all, with an air/fuel ratio gauge tunning is a snap, you just have to be smart about it. Start off tunning it really rich and then do some runs and adjust the S-AFC down accordingly.
