Still Won't Run!
Still Won't Run!
I have a 1987 13b n/a that just won't run. It will stay running if i keep it above 2000 rpm after spraying starter fluid into the intake tube. i know the engines not blown because i just rebuilt it. I have done just about every test i could think of and still nothing is working. After multiple fuel pressure (before and after the rail), injector pulse, ignition timing, wire resistance, and spark tests, it still won't run. i have a suspicion that there is still unmetered air entering the system, yet i can't find out where. If anyone has a good vacuum schematic on that year motor, that'd be awesome. I also heard that the mass air flow sensors on those are really touchy. it's got the swinging door rather than the plunger style. I have been told that if that MAF sensor is not exactly level it won't run. Any other suggestions?
Sounds like either a vacuum leak or low compression. My guess would be vacuum leak.
You can spray starter fluid around the engine bay vacuum lines and listen for a change in idle (slightly unsafe depending on where you spray).
or...
You can get a compressor and block off the intake and pump in pressurized air and listen for a leak.
