Sticking VDI

Hey guys,

Hoping someone has had this problem before - couldn't find the answer in a search. The VDI on my GTUs is not opening fully. I'd like to pull the actuator and see if the VDI mechanism itself is sticking or if it's the actuator being recalcitrant. The manual says to remove the actuator you have to pull the manifolds.

Has anyone gotten the actuator off with the manifolds on the motor? I have a competition this weekend and I'd like to get it sorted out.

Thanks,

JV

To get the actuator diaphragm off you have to separate the uim from the middle intake I know that for sure. The "valve" itself is fairly long, I cant really envision a way to pull it out with the manifold on the car. Unless you have new gaskets I would suggest waiting to remove it.

You can take it off or loose so to speak, but can't get it out from between the manifolds. You could do this to take it off the valve so you can check and make sure the valve moves freely. If you determine it's the actuator you could wire the valve to it's high rpm position and bolt the actuator back to the manifold but leave it disconected from the valve until you get another one and are ready to split the manifolds.

Wire that noise open! If you are dropping below its actuation point you are not going fast enough and shifting too soon

At least on the road courses that's the mentality. I suppose cone dodging is another story.

Sorry to be of zero help. I just hate all that mechanical actuation stuff. I don't trust any of it, especially pneumatic actuators.

this post is mostly unrelated but this is how i checked my vdi and not to shove it in your face or anything, it works great and is fully activated with only a few psi which is what you want. this is how i did it, go towards the end of the video...
