Stereo and other wiring problems!!

I have been installing my own stereos since I was 15. I got a new CD player for my RX 7 and when I installed it the front speakers didn't work... I have ripped everything a part and installed it again and still nothing... could it be th head unit its self or is there another trick?
I also have some brake light problems, they don't turn on... the fuse is good and the lights are good, is it a switch? how much dose one cost?.. or is it more than that? what ever help is awsome! thanx guys

Does your old head unit have one of those surround sound amplifers? And, if so, did the car's console have the separate volume controls, switch, etc. If all that stuff is there, then you may not have located the right wires. If you changed the door speakers, it would be easy to use a meter to check the continuity (sp) from the door speaker wires (or any other speakers for that matter) with one probe on the speaker wire and the other checking various wires in and around the head unit. The same will work for checking your brake light switch...which is more than likely your problem. A number of guys complain about various switches not working and try to find replacements...until the see how much those replacements cost. If I were you, I'd remove the brake light switch, give it a good honest cleaning then see if that works. Also, with it remove, you can simply use a jumper wire to connect the two contacts and see if the brake lights come on...if so, then you at least isolated the problem to the switch itself...all of which I described will have cost you nothing.

Rob Let me know how that works out.

what??? this is all wrong for a 2nd gen (FC) RX-7. There are no seperate volumn controls. What are you smoking???

Please don't answer if you don't know!!!

The guy didn't wire up the amp turn on or bypass the front amp. He should know that the stereo wiring is found in the FAQ for FC sticky thread at the top of this 2nd gen RX-7 section.

I had the exact same problem when I first installed the new head unit in my fc. Underneath the dashboard on the passenger side is a panel with a metal box and two plastic connectors. That is your amplifier. The easiest way to bypass it is to disconnect both white connectors and connect the male connector (that was inserted into the box) to the female connector (that had the male connector from the box insterted into it). I went the next step and removed the box from the car, but if you don't want to mess with anything, you can just leave it in.

Hope that helps somewhat.

so that huge box on my right speaker is an amp... I have all the wires right, there is one wire that isn't conected, its white, I didn't think it would do anything, so what would I wire that too, the power wire?

I would recommend just bypassing the amp. IMHO it doesn't really do much on an upgraded system pushing 25watts RMS.

But yes, I do believe that is the power wire.

Hey. My vert had a "stock" separate unit in the console for the stereo volume, ie surround sound. I chaged the entire thing out, added an amp and changed all the speaker in the car. By the way, I've had 5 FCs. So, you might consider that I know what I am talking about. However, this may not be correct for this guy's car, but he did not say whether he had that unit in his car originally or not. Rob
