In pictures of suped up FCs, I keep noticing that the plastic surround around the steering column is removed, the pice that covers the column. Why is this? Any ideas?

 

In my case, because I removed the turn signal cancel device and will not have an ignition key lock, so there's no place to bolt it back in. And it's not really necessary, so why bother Hell, if I could have, the whole dash would be gone.
