Steam Cleaning

I am planning on steam clean my engine bay and some of my interior would it be a good idea to do this will it ruin and thing in the engine bay and will the mositure ruin anything inside like the computer or something just open everything up then i will be good, but more concerned about the engine it really dirty and would like to clean it. I would think it would be safer then using degreaser and a hose to clean the engine bay.

Never been a proponent of steam cleaning an engine. I've seen electrical problems develop on too many cars after the cleaning. If you do clean the engine by any method, make sure you have an air hose available to blow out all the electrical connections.

Just had my second cleaning at a detail shop. First one three years ago on my GXL and last week on my new vert. $25 a pop and came out great. Make sure you show them the two ignitors and make sure they plug the air intake with something. Some folks recommend covering the alternator.

BTW, they rarely steam clean. The good ones wet down a cool engine, aplpy some grease remover if necessary, then power wash at a pressure significantly lower than the one you use to power wash your deck.

Both times the engine bay came out really clean. No problems either time. They started right up and no electrical problems.

Forget about steam cleaning. Simple green and a garden hose will do just as good. Just add elbow grease.
