starting problem

OK, im so confused...car wouldnt start i replaced the starter then the car will start every time no problem for 6 months and then bam everything electrical turns on but nothing from engine bay no crank noise no anything. then i hit the starter with a screwdriver/hammer and then turn key and it starts right up again.. what is this problem!? i have no idea even how to explain this to a mechanic and give him something to look for, is the new starter bad already also? what would cause a starter to go bad that quickly? what wears them out? i dont over crank it or anything that im aware of my other car ive had for 4 years and never had a problem with the starter... any help would be super thx

Talking AUTO ZONE...Maybe

Dude....sounds like you been buyin the starters at Auto Zone...thats about the average life of one there...if yer lucky and get a good one...less if ye aint...I have two 88's...SE with automatic and GTU w 5 spd...I just keep an extra starter around (rebuilt by a local rebuilder) then when one goes I put the rb in then get the other rebuilt for backup...do that with alternators too...but ye gotta watch Auto Zone stuff....I don't even trust their name brands of engine oil....good luck dude..
