Starter troubles!!!

I got my engine put in today and I was ready to start it but apparently I hooked my starter up backwards and fried it... it will throw out the gear and won't spin so now I have to get a new starter since my attempts to fix it left me with a totally dead starter... so my question is will any other starters from other mazdas fit? or do I need the rx7 specific one? And also which is the positive side and which is the negative so that I dont fry another one?

-Thanks
Rob

it looks like some of the mazda truck starters will fit (b series) Are the rx7 starters all the same for the different years?

rx7 starters vary from year to year.. so you need a 12a or 13b starter.. or a pretty special one from the FD style
