starter trouble

starter trouble

so i just replaced my starter and when i put the battery cable back on it sparked and got stuck and burned like crazy until i hit it off with a hammer. what did i do wrong. also the previous starter didnt go bad until after i replaced my trans then it just didnt worked and i got it tested and it failed.

Your starter should look SIMILAR to the one in the jpg attached.

Solenoid has two threaded posts for cables.

One I colored PURPLE and it gets the cable that runs INTO the starter itself.

The OTHER threaded post gets the POSITIVE cable from the batterys positive post. I colored it GREEN in the jpg 'cause I wanted to color it green and for no other reason.

The small blade gets the trigger wire.

There should be another cable that comes from the batterys negative post. IT gets bolted to the starters long outboard bolt that holds the starter in place. OR it can go to some other bolt that holds the transmission to the engine. Matters not.........very much. That cable is not shown in the jpg attached. It should be a large black cable with a yellow stripe on it.

OMMMMG i put the negative cable where the purple is on that pic i totally effed up, but i swear thats where it went like a month ago before i did all this crap. thanks for the help i really appreciate it
