Starter problems help!

Starters not working, everytime i try and start it i sounds like the cables are frying. I'v tried switching the cables and that dosen't work. any thoughts?

Need more info. Does the engine turn at all? Is the battery good? Have the cable connections at the battery, and the battery posts, been cleaned in the past year? Get under the car and firmly tap the starter with a hammer several times. If there's a bad spot on the commutator, this may start it. DON'T hit it on the aluminum part that's closest to the engine. Hit it on the black section.

I'v just finished rebuilding my engine, and i have a brand new battery. B4 i rebuilt the engine it cracked up fine. So i shuld start up fine now, but it makes a noise like its frying when i try to crank the engine. The starter dosen't turn at all when this happeneds

Prop the driverside of the car up and have someone hit the end of the starter downtowards the flywheel. Thats made mine start a few times.

I just read your other post about having just redone your wiring harness, and other work. It sounds like you've got more on your plate than just a problem with the starter. If Mark is correct, and you've had the battery connections reversed, there may be any number of things wrong now, when combined with wiring problems. Don't know how much help we can be with this one, since we don't know what you've done in a really specific way.

I think its the starter. I was having problems putting my battery cables on, but i took the start off and reinstalled it and i was able to connect the battery up just fine. Then i turn the ignition to second position and tried my lights, wipers, etc and everything seemed to work fine. Then i stried starting my engine and the starter did nothing and sounded like it was frying.
