Starter problems?
For some reason the battery in my 86 NA isn't keeping a charge. It is a brand new battery. I replaced the alternator, I've checked all relays and no power seems to be draining. When the battery is fully charged and the car is attempted to start, all I get is clicking. My question is, can the problem be a bad starter? All connections are good. What else should I check?

It could be the starter. The clicking noise could be the starter solenoid engaging, but the starter motor could be dead. That might be why it's not starting. As for the battery not holding a charge, that is another problem all together. If you post some more info I'll be glad to try and help you out.

Well the whole "battery dieing, car not starting" issue started when my driver's side headlight motor died on me. I haven't replaced the motor yet, just pulled the headlight retractor relay, since I'm no longer putting moving the headlights up and down. Is there another headlight relay that could be draining the battery?

If you pulled the retractor fuse, that should kill any drain from those guys.
Get that starter fixed first, then go from there. Does banging on it a couple of times before a start attempt seem to help any?
Check out the starter's wiring, too- look for frayed or chaffing cables next to the tranny/engine...

Not that I'm aware of. Did you unplug the wires from the headlight motor itself? I would try that and see if it keeps the battery from draining. I'm not sure if it's possible for the motor to screw up and ground itself out. That would put a steady draw on the battery. Pull your starter out and wire it up once it's out of the car. That way you can see if the starter is actually engaging and spinning or not.

Alright, I'll give those a shot and see what comes of it. The battery is still draining from somewhere, just having a hell of a time figuring this thing out.
