Starter Problems

On my '86 GXL I was getting an electrical clicking noise before my car would fire. Now it won't fire at all and is making no noise. My question is do you think it's the starter itself or something electrical??

electrical...i'd check to make sure all of the connectors going to the starter are clean and connected. my 87 tii did that before and after i cleaned off the oil and gunk around the electrical connections, it's been starting up just fine (no more click-click, click-click, click-click, crank, crank, crank, vrooooom!!!)

Does the clicking noise come from the starter? Is your battery fully charged? Try tapping on the starter casing with a hammer...If it is sticking, that will usually unstick it.

I can't really tell as I was in the car when it started doing this. I will try tapping the casing to see if that unsticks it, also I will check the connectors as well. Thanks for the replys

Believe it or not....

this is probably due to dirty battery posts. Buy one of those simple wire brush tools from you local parts shop, I'll bet your problem goes away.
