Starter problem

Well, it just started happening, but, when I put my key to the start position, i just hear a very faint whining.

Car will start and run fine if I roll it and pop the clutch.

I wanted to check and see if the starter was engaging, so while the car was running, I turned the key to the start position. I didn't hear any grinding or anything. Just a slight whine. Maybe the solenoid is bad? I am going to try and hit it with a hammer a couple times. Is it better to have it rebuilt, or just buy new?

Thanks! Anything else I should check? From what I could tell, all electrical connections on the starter were good.

Hmm, I'll have to take it out and look it over on my next day off. Til then, it's parkin' on a hill for me.

I was going to try and smack it a couple times, but I can't get anything in that little area. And, I can't get under the car much because it is lowered.

This all started just after AutoX. So, I don't know what the problem is. Also, after autox my steering seemed really stiff, and at times was almost impossible to turn. This is after I had turned the car off and let it sit. So, guess I have a few things to look over on my day off.

Either the solenoid or the starter motor has failed. Time for a new starter. I have one if you like.

Ahh, i figured it out.

Basically, my wiring near the steering knuckle got caught up in it, and ripped it off the starter. It also ripped a bit of other wiring up.

So, after I reconnected everything, it worked just fine!

yay!

Thanks for the help guys!
