Starter install probs:(! Help Plox
Hey guys, me and my buddy where working on my car we changed the tranny and such, he unbolted the starter + wires, and we cant remember how to hook it back up..
im kinda confused and searched all over the forum even used the Rx7 bible.., The starter has 2 pole connectors and a switch connector between.
I hooked up the switch one,
But the prob is i have 2 wires to hook up from the engine bay i believe one is a ground and 1 is a power source.. which one goes where..
(facing to the front of the car behind the starter)
Left pole-Positive or Negative? (far from the tranny)
Right pole- Positive or Negative.. im really lost guys please help me!!!! thanks!(close to the tranny)
Best regards Pat

Th positive gets hooked on a Std that has a 12mm nut on it.
the Negative(yellow striped wire) on the harness is looped onto the Long bolt, and the bolt slides through the Rear engine to starter, then you just nut it and tighten.\
The small wire is just connected onto the Solenoid.(slips on a tab like connector)
OH..please connect this **** when the battery is disconnected.

Large black/yellow cable is negative and like the man said gets bolted to the starters long bolt or even to any of the bolts that tie the transmission to the engine.
Small trigger wire goes to the small blade.
Large positve cable goes to one of the two threaded studs on the starter solenoid. Which of the two studs? Look carefully and you'll see one of the threaded studs has a cable going from it to the guts of the starter itself. You do not want to put the positive cable on this stud. You want to put it on the other threaded stud on the solenoid.
Put the car out of gear after you make your starter connections. Then put the battery cables back on the batt. IF the starter starts turning when you put the cables on the batt.........pull 'em off right away cause you got the cable on the starter solenoid going to the wrong threaded stud. Correct said problem and reconnect the batt cables and all will now be well.

The wire coming from the positive on the battery goes on the left side stud. I just changed my starter last week. It was a duralast rebuilt starter that looked exactly like the one it replaced. As others said the ground can be bolted any where and the switch connection is pretty straight forward.
Here is a pic from the service manual I found in another thread.

As a general rule:
You've got two studs on the solenoid...
One will have a short wire going into the body of the starter.
DO NOT TOUCH THAT STUD!
Positive wire goes to the unoccupied stud.
