Starter - Flywheel
CAR: 87 TII
Compression: Last time I checked was about 87 F/R
Car Status: Runs strong
Flooding: Of course - Fuel Pump relay band aid
This does not happen all the time.
What do you think causes the flywheel or starter's teeth not lining up.
So when the iginition is -> start , it would just click.
I don't think it's the battery (it's fairly charged) or starter (fresh rebuilt with lots of power)
I rotate the main drive pulley about a quarter and the car starts perfect!
Is my theory right about the flywheel/starter teeth? ...Or just the engine internal is messing up, maybe needs to be lubed - injected with oil or similar.
Before the starter was rebuilt, it had the same symptom until it spun so slow and finally died that I had to smack the bitch up while starting.
I got the starter rebuilt and is very strong, but once in a while especially when too cold these days.. [early mornings].. would just click and click,
(key start fast-- clickclickclickclick-- it would start. but i don't like hearing those clicks too many times to start, so I just pop the hood and rotate the main pulley just a bit. and FIRES right up very strong..
If my batt is getting weak, then why does it start when I rotate the main pulley (done it many times - not just coincidence)

It's clicking pretty hard. I don't even need to jump start it.
I don't have a clue if the solenoid has been rebuilt too.
Im assuming (of course) it is. The starter looked new after it was rebuilt. Didnt look like the one I dropped off. I asked the guy who rebuilt it. He said the starter seemed like it had a million miles and was pretty worn off. So I hope he did all kinds of stuff to it.
Once starter catches on, it just fires up like in less than a sec very strong.
Any idea why it starts right up when I rotate the main pulley just a tad bit..?

no idea
my guess would be something to do with the rebuilt starter....here at the body shop I have had nothing but (well OK, SOME good luck) bad luck with rebuilt starters/alternators.....
because if the solenoid and starter motor are functioning properly they should do just that....the solenoid would slam out the starter gear (click) and then it should start spinning and mesh with the ring gear.....if the car didn't have this problem before the rebuilt starter was put in AND THE RING GEAR WAS UN-TOUCHED then it shouldn't have the problem now.
If the ring gear and starter gear needed to be that precsion aligned, the motor would have some type of notched/racheting device to stop it at the same spot every time it shuts off....they should mesh together on their own (provided the ring gear is installed on the flywheel properly
if you ask me you have a weak rebuild...but this is only internet speculation
I would ask though...are you 100% positive that all starter leads and wiring are clean and tight and that the starter IS installed properly? (not that you don't know whats going on, but this is an odd problem so all avenues must be explored)

maybe something's up with the starter rebuild then hmmm.
Yeh, the car had that symptom (clickclick) till the starter got really sloooow and had to smack it to fire it up....
This time the starter clicks really hard/loud and spins really fast when it catches.
This problems usually occurs when it's too damn cold.
When the car has been running. No Problems at All: it's a champ! hhehe.
I had the car up on the lift and replaced all the wirings to the starter.
100% sure got it all hooked up right.
Thanks!

can you print smaller?(text button broke?)...Starter has a dead spot..Suggestion.. purchase a new one..Rebuilts(been posted on here before ..I read somethin about it..)have been known to wear out quicker, give you problems..One guy posted going through 3 of em..best bet is to get a New one..Not a Rebuilt..For the couple of extra bucks it won't leave you stranded..
