Stand Alone Ignition System

Alot of pictures of engine bays I see have the trailing and leading coils removed. Unless there hidden REAL good and I cant see them, Is there another ignition system people use on the car that is easy to install. I want to remove as much from the engine bay as possable

If you really want to take a step back in technology you could grab a dizzy off an older 13b. Otherwise a standalone will still use direct fire coils, even if they are not your stock ones.

I have seen in another htread where people are using Bosch and other coils as well. Can you just get rid of the 2nd gen coils and go with 4 seperate coils then? Or, do you have to modify igniters etc?

Bare bones coils need ignitiors.
The stock ECU needs the ignitors to step up the voltage to fire the coils properly.
Most stand-alone ECU's require ignitors.
Some stand-alone ECU's have built-in ignitors that allow you to wire them straight to coils - ala older Microtech ECU's.
