Stamped s4 turbo rotor housing?

Stamped s4 turbo rotor housing?
hey i bought an engine a while ago off of a guy, and i noticed that the rotor housings were stamped RE96, does anyone know what that would mean?

just saying this because i have never seen any other engine stamped like that. it was stamped just above the "13b" casting. maybe just some home mechanic numbering something?

mazda reman

the serial number should be stamped near it.

that housing was in a Mazda reman built before they switched to the blue tag on the front cover in 1997.

Well if thats the case one of the blocks of the two I'm using in my rebuild is a reman engine. Im hoping what's inside looks better than the outside.

that tag will fall off if severely overheated.

it will also fall off if you scrape under it during a rebuild.
