SRS + turbo = problem?
So ive been playing with the idea of throwing my 90' vert in the garage for some downtime (cosmo/TII swap) while im going to college, since i dont want to deal with porting yet and intake+exhaust has lost it's fun and lookin for a bit more out of my vert and this idea popped into my head.
My S5 vert came equipped with the SRS (saftey restraint system) and i was thinking that's got to be controlled by the CPU right? so would swapping motors which intails swapping out ECU have any effect on the SRS system.
My question is then this i guess since only the ECU is being swapped this would not have any effect on the CPU and the SRS would remain working....supposing it works after 16 years anyways
I know its a big no no to mess with airbag stuff (tampering with restraint system) as they call it so im just hoping the fact that my car came with the SRS wont hold me back from anything.
Oh yea and i searched but some reason i just got a bunch of posts about 240sx's which i dont have a problem with but id rather have my answer
Thanks
Matt

First, the ECU and CPU are not the same thing. The ECU controls the engine functions (fuel, ignition, emission controls) and the CPU controls body functions (horns, indicators, hazards, warnings, etc). However neither of these units have anything to do with the airbag, which has its own separate control module. The system won't be affected by an engine/ECU swap.
