The speedometer is not electronic, it's mechanical. The connecting cable runs from the tail shaft on the transmission through the floorpan, behind the dash, and into the instrument cluster.

If the cable is loose on the transmission the speedometer & tachometer will not fuction. If the "plastic gear" inside the transmission is chewed up, the gear will not spin the cable and you'll see the same problem.

Ah the speedo cable. I've had fun with that one. Odds are it came unplugged somehow. Mine did, and let me tell you, it's a PAIN to reconnect if you have large hands... heck even normal sized hands.

It's connected straight to the Tach and Speedo gauge cluster, you have to remove the steering whell / gauge cluster to get behind there. The cable is a little thicker than a regular television cable and has a bronze tip with one "pin".

Good luck, it's a pain in the butt. LOL

I had to unhook mine to take the cluster out... plugging it back in is a HUGE pain, becasue basically the plastic clip on the back FEELS like you got it all the way on, but you don't.

I had to unplug the cable, plug it back in, then take a trip around the block to see if it was working yet.
