Is there any reason why a speedo cable from an Auto tranny car wouldn't work for a 5spd. The speedo cable on my 5sp is bad (kinked during an engine swap) and I have a good cable from an old auto car that I'd like to put on it.

I expect the ratio is the same, but the length may be different.

I got a replacement from the local parts store for under $20.
