specs and differences of models... (buying)

im looking at purchasing a 87 Turbo with the motor out. (wiring harness cut too) the tranny has a hairline crack by where the starter goes in. the motor and chassis have been sitting apart for 3yrs. i'd like to learn about the car before i jump into it.

specifically, whats this 4 lug 5 lug conversion?

what problems should i be looking at?

whats the difference between the older turbos and the newer Turbo IIs?

if i dont rebuild and instead just swap in a new motor, would there be any big gains/differences?

thanks guys... im hoping to be a rotary head.

OK, that's a great project car, but note that it is nearly worthless as far as a purchase. If everything else is in good shape, don't pay any more than $500 for it. I have seen better cars than that given away for free.

It's for converting a base model non-turbo car with 4-lug wheels into the upscale 5-lug wheel spec. Every TII comes with 5-lug wheels, so this is not a factor for you.

Basically the sames thing to look at on a non-turbo car:

Yeah, since you don't even have a wiring harness, you may want to just pick up a J-spec engine for $1K, and a standalone EMS for $1-1.5K. A rebuild is about $2K, not including the wiring harness.

the car is $300obo, im gonna give him a lower offer than that.

as far as "TII" goes, does that just mean its a 2nd gen RX7 with Turbo? i mean, like is there a Turbo I and a Turbo II and Turbo III? or what...? sorry.. im a total RX7 newbie..

TII just means it's a 2nd Gen Turbo RX-7. I believe there was a turbo'd RX before and that's what made this one the "II" but I could be wrong.
