Speaker opinions, please! (Yep, I searched)

I'm replacing the 6 inch speakers in my 88 vert. Gonna put coax's in with an amp pushing them and the stock (for now) 4 inchers in the front. Also have the headrest speakers working with the rear channel of the head unit.

What's the best bang-for-buck 6 1/2 inch replacement speakers? I'm looking at JBL P652's, but I'm not sold yet 'till I hear from y'all.

Thanks!

if you really want bang for the buck and a lot of sound, remove the rear amp bins and all that **** and put a set of good 8" woofers in there. they fit perfectly, and sound great. especially if u stuff the towers with foam under them.

Old man, you should come by one day and listen to my setup. I have 6 piece components up front and the stock headrest speakers with an aftermarket deck, no amp. Cost was about $150 (plus the deck obviously).

I used to have Boston Acoustic 6.5" in the towers...cut the stock mounting plates to adapt to the 6.5" diameter. $100 for the pair of speakers, and I thought they sounded absolutely great.

read the post correctly

he has no rear towers, hes got a vert.
i wasnt aware that 6.5's could fit in the doors of an 88' vert without some cutting. if anyone has found shallow 6.5's that would fit right in there i would be interested too.

I have a pretty new kenwood deck (50X4) with pretty standard kenwood 4 inchers up front and 6.5's out back that are 2 ways with rubber surrounds. I also have a new harness in the back and everything is wired correctly but there is no volume and no bass...of course the car is pretty loud (dual N1, no cats, 2.5 inch downpipe/racepipe). The factory amp is also removed...I need a decent 4 channel amp one day.

I'm gonna vote "no" on anything made by Rockford Fosgate. I replaced the 4"ers in the dash with a set and they lasted about one year before they started to sound crackly. I don't play the music loud enough for this to have been my fault. Naturally, the warranty had just expired.

From what I've read, any speaker with a depth of 2 1/2 inches or less will go in the doors. I've found a few that will supposedly fit, but I'd sure like some bass from the door area. I'll probably wait 'till I hear Kevin's setup, he knows lots about that stuff, but if anyone has replaced vert door speakers and is HAPPY, I'd love to hear what ya bought.

2 1/2 inches mounted inside the door or mounted outside on the panel with (for example) the Boston Acoustics grills...if outside wouldnt that give it another 1/2 inch or so?

That would probably work, but I was hoping to keep the stock look.

In my opinion, dont buy JBL or Rockford fosgate, horrible quality and the fosgate's are horribly overpriced and have shitty sound quality/output.

check out audiobahns new honeycomb series, otherwise stick with JL boston acoustic or alphasonic if your want to risk it. NEVER get kenwood or pioneer speakers. for that matter. never buy ANY brand they sell at best buy.

Or london drugs... lmao, have any of you guys heard of 'pyramid power'?

oh man, check this badass **** out!
PYRAMID POWER WILL ROCK YOUR WORLD

please note the "whats news" on the top of the page. Nice typo for professional website. Whats news? pyramid will destroy any quality components you put in with it, it will also destroy your standards that you know have in audio speakers.

anyways, I like alpine, they make some nice nice ****. I've heard really good things about JL audio and pheonix gold. I had some kenwood speakers in my rear when I got the car, sounded like totall trash compared to pioneer.

Well, since this thread was bumped, I'll answer my own question:

3 1/2inch speakers, but that involves cutting

intresting any one got any info on how to put an after market deck in the verts with the head rest speakers because i've heard you can only send 15 watts to the head rest speakers so i dont want to do any thing to mine untill i understand what i'm doing and know what type of mounting kit or doubble din deck will fit in place of the stock deck (would be nice to have a new deck and a good EQ)

after 17 years of existance the stock cd player has a skipind disorder the slightest bump and skip

sweet someone else that is installing a sound system into an 88 vert!!!

well, i get my 7 back on tuesday, and will very soon start making it "more" of a comfortable ride to be in. but...

in my opinion, from what i have heard, get audiobhans, they produce the most clarity and bass i have ever heard. oh ya, infinitys suxxors, i was trying to look for the rear speakers for the vert, but didnt know where to look cuz of the top n stuff.....

Any aftermarket deck can be installed and use the stock controls for the headrest speakers, and the stock headrest amp...keeping the speakers safe (since the same amp is driving them).

i can check at work and see what speakers have that mounting depth, i can also check the mounting depth max limit. I part time at Circuit City (mainly for the discount) in the Roadshop, so this is what I do all weekend anyway.

BTW, I'm going with Infinity 6.5" components w/ mid bass in the rear and the tweets mounted in the door vents just behind the bars (will not get hot enough to destroy them, i already tested.) Infinity 4" up front with some frame mods to accept them w/out destroying the factory grills.

Already have the Alpine 9827, will also be using an Infinity 4 ch for the highs and Infinity Basslink mounted in the rear for some low end bunch to Pantera.
