Speaker mounts in the towers.

Does anyone make speaker mounts for the shock towers? I got 6 1/2 inch speakers in there with wooden mounts and its pretty ghetto. So if anyone knows anything about some, that would be great. Also, has anyone taken their car to a shop and had the 6 1/2 inch speakers mounted in the doors? I have the door panels that don't have a speaker at all built in. But I'd like to get the sound up front, rather then everything comeing from the back.

www.Crutchfield.com sells adapters and spacers I believe that work. If your 88 has the original "plastic tub box" in the strut towers it'll work great. If you have Mazda's "sealed speakers" then with aftermarket speakers you'll need to seal the tower so it's air tight (otherwise you'll blow the speaker almost instantly.)

ummm there are there are factory 4" holes under the dash for front speakers that are used often but there are also 5.25" holes in the door above the arm rest ive only seen them used on my 89gxl other wise youll have to cut a hole in the door panel to put speakers there

"sealed speakers" then with aftermarket speakers you'll need to seal the tower so it's air tight (otherwise you'll blow the speaker almost instantly.)

its not like hes putting subs in the doors or rear strut tower. if he has a good baffle and speaker mount thats all it takes enough to seperate the backwave from the front granted a sealed speaker can play tighter and and handle more power "sealed air acts as a return spring" but most companys biuld full-range speakers with factory replacment in mind for baffled installs.

(otherwise you'll blow the speaker almost instantly.) in 7 years of car audio installs ive never heard of such a thing... give it the rated power clean and u shouldnt have any problems i bet the guy that blew them instantly was user errer tryn to use them as subs, or without a highpass, clipping, didnt break speakers in etc..

one more thing how come 95% cars dont have sealed speakers yet almost all of them dont go bad with normal use or instantly after there driven of the showroom floor

I've got some round Sony speakers (don't know the size off the top of my head, but it's about 6") mounted in the towers in the back and in the doors in the front. I used a plywood ring (made it myself) to mount the speakers in the rear. It works fine and you can't really see it through the cover. If you're worried about seeing hte plywood then paint it black. The towers aren't sealed at all (in fact I cut holes in them for the rear shock tower brace) and the speakers are fine, whoever told you that they need to be in a sealed box was smoking crack, it's just not true. In the doors the speakers are mounted at the front at the bottom, behind the door panels. My car had an aftermarket stereo in it already, so I don't know what it looks like stock and if mine's different, but they fit just fine and there's a perforated panel on the door cover there anyway (same on the replacement door panel I got too).

I've used both a metal baffle for my towers and wood. I liked the wood better. As far as i Know no one makes any kind of adaptor for the towes. It would be like 8" into 6,5,4 you get the idea. Just make up a nicer wooden one and be happy. No one sees it any way
