Hi, I was ust wondering if it is at all possible to put your spark plugs in too far. I just took mine out to clean them, because I failed my emissions test, and put them back in. After I was finished I took it out to see if it helped any. Seeing as the spark plugs were black when I took them out. Whan I was driving I heard this wierd little noise cming from the engine. I went back home and popped the hood and could tell that it was coming from the engine. The best I can describe it is like a knocking sound, not very loud though. I know that the sound was not there before so it leads me to believe that I possibly put one of the spark plugs in to far. I am relatively new to rotary engines so I was wondering if this is even at all possible? Any help would be appreciated.

 

Ain't happenin' buddy There's no way (if they're standard NGK plugs) to get them that far in there. I don't think they hit even with the crush washers removed (NOTE: I am not recommending that you do this, just trying to give you some peace of mind!)

Check your plug wires to make sure you have 'em hooked up the correct way!

Pull the plugs out and look at them . any damage ? Spin the motor with out them in .Any knock sound. ? A plug of the wrong type can be put in and the longer electrode can hit the apex seal. this can happen on the leading plug hole. The trailing hole is very small.

 

Thanks Guys. I have noticed over the last couple of days that the noise has not gone away, but now I know that it is definately not the plugs, i will pull them out and inspaect them for any damage tomorrow. thanks again.

 

the top plugs and the bottom plugs are diffrent types make sure you didnt put them in incorrectly. there should be diffrent color bands on them. just a thought

 

one other thought.

Don't forget to coat the spark plugs threads with antiseize....Though, I donno if its a gimmick. Was told I should use it...so I do.

And considering that its a aluminum housing, use a torque wrench to get those plugs in. They all have specifications for how tight they should be....of the top of my head I think its 15lbs...but don't quote me on that

 

all the antisieze does is keep the plug from becoming a pain in the *** to pull out later.
