Unhappy SOS!NA 1990 RX7 Auto stalls when coming to a stop

Hello!

I am wondering what would cause a 1990 RX7 (NA) automatic to stall when coming to a stop. If you put the car in neutral, it prevents it from stalling, but it's a PITA.

After doing some searches, I found similar posts, but couldn't find one that addressed the same issue with an auto. The responses made sense, as they recommended looking at the TPS, the BAC, and also determine if there are any vacuumm leaks.

Is this the right track or is there something terribly wrong with the tranny or this car!?

THANKS!

it IS a problem with the auto tranny...not just in these cars....early cav's 1988-1994 had trouble as well

the issue is that the torque convertor is not letting go of the engine (very simplified exp.) but thats why when you phsycially put the tranny in neutral it doesn't happen...

On the ol' cavaliers there was a sensor that controlled some solenoid in the tranny(sorry, don't know which one) and unplugging it was a fix (but alas a ghetto one)

On the auto RX though I have NO idea what that sensor wuold translate to, or be located......

my answer:

ditch the slushbox and get a stick shift...hehe

edit: I believe to properly fix this, you'd need to rebuild the trans

Mine did this for a while just before I realised it was the engine. The rear rotor had lost compression. Just test it to see.

Is it EVERY time or just most of the time? did it start as occasional or did it just start doing it suddenly?
