Someone throw me freakin bone here....PW question!

88 GXL. Power window goes down like a charm. Goes up fine 'till halfway then stops then maybe 40 secs later goes up? I cleaned the switch(had been done before) took window out and it travels up and down fine w/o glass. Can the tabs in the switch be too thin or is it something else? I need some help ! This is a pain in the freakin winter here!
Thanks

perhaps your power window motor is starting to go bad in other words it can't take the load of the glass for as long as it takes to raise the window all the way.

I had a problem like that. I had a wire inside the door which was getting caught on the window and holding it back. Worth a shot just to take a look.

Sounds like the overload breaker in the motor is tripping before it should. It could be too much friction somewhere - or just a tired old motor.

Do the tracks need grease? They look the same all the way up. You know fuzzy track material from bottom in door to top of door. So if it goes part way up does this mean the switch is ok?
Thanks

Consider that it takes more effort to lift the window the higher it goes (unless there's a mechanical advantage built into the mechinism) so the motor needs more juice to keep it rolling. It's either the switch, the morot, or the tracks.

The first thing to lube is the carrier & the nylon gear tape.
Run the window up.
Pull the door panel.
Silicone spray works well, or motorcycle chain lube.
Run the window up/down to work it in.

I do this about once a year..
