Someone please help me set timing

I tried searching but theres to many variables i need to consider before doing this. First off im doing this because the idle is messed up and the turbo gets red hot after about 5 minutes of idling. The idle does not want to go below 2k rpms.
Also the yellow mark on the crankshaft that is used to set it ATDC is not there so how do i refrence anything??
And finally what is the easy way to set timing on these cars. Its an 88 TII 10th ae, all stock engine.

Restab the CAS. It sounds like your timing is REALLY far off, and you can't really set the timing properly above 1000 RPM or so - the ECU starts advancing timing somewhere around there.

Try playing with the timing some to see if you can get it to idle lower. Rotary engines are really forgiving of timing at idle, but it sounds like yours is *way* out of whack (probably retarded so far that most of the burn is happening after the exhaust ports open).
